Enterprise Village Homeschool Day February 2022

Enterprise Village Homeschool Day
February, 2022
Date TBA
7:50a-2:00p

Ovations School for the Arts is proud to be the homeschool liaison to the Gus A Stavros Institute’s Enterprise Village Homeschool Day.

What is Enterprise Village?
Enterprise Village is a self-contained economic education program that provides a hands-on learning experience for students. They spend 6 weeks studying economic education objectives that teach them about writing checks, using a debit card, keeping a checkbook register, applying for a job and working in a group. These educational objectives are put into action as the students spend one day at the village. The layout of Enterprise Village is similar to a shopping mall. During their business day, students work in one of the 20+ businesses, take 3 breaks, receive paychecks and have the opportunity to be consumers by making purchases in one of the business-sponsored storefronts. Without a doubt, this is considered by most students to be their best educational experience in elementary school.

This event is geared toward grades 3-6 (ages 9-12)

The Enterprise Village program assists students by allowing them to:
  1. •Develop basic economic concepts
  2. •Understand relationships between businesses and consumers
  3. •Use quality concepts in business and consumer planning
  4. •Develop a basic understanding of checking and savings accounts
  5. •Understand a simple decision-making process
  6. •Work together to satisfy customer’s expectations

Goals of Enterprise Village Curriculum
Enterprise Village meets the needs of a diverse group of students by providing engaging, academically enriching experiential lessons. Following participation in the Enterprise Village experience, student will be able to:
  1. •Discuss the roles they, as citizens, play in their community as workers and consumers and relate these personal roles to the free enterprise system.
  2. •Discuss the importance of citizens’ rights and responsibilities in a community.
  3. •Demonstrate a basic understanding of the free enterprise system.
  4. •Understand the importance of nonprofit organizations in our communities.
  5. •Build money management skills through practical knowledge of economic concepts and banking practices.
  6. •Develop an understanding of basic business practices and responsibilities.
  7. •Display the soft skills necessary for successful participation in the world of work.
